Installation Best Practices

When installing a newly remanufactured long block there are several things to be mindful of to ensure success and longevity of the engine. The most successful installations are performed by qualified shops and/or technicians. All too often people spend a lot of money on a product but try to save money on the backside by either installing the engine themselves or using a less than qualified mechanic to handle the installation. Purchasing a remanufactured engine means making a financial commitment and a similar financial commitment should be anticipated for the proper installation by a qualified professional.

A remanufactured long block consists of the cylinder head, block, all internal components, timed gear train, and the remaining gaskets and seals necessary for the swap and install of the engine. All reman engines are assembled using brand new wear parts in every instance. Capital Reman provides the long block configuration for several reasons. First and foremost, most people are replacing an engine because of an internal issue of some type that may include spun bearings, worn rings and liners, or a block problem. Although the long block is not delivered with the fuel system or turbo, it is very common to hear customers explain the injectors and/or turbo were recently replaced on their prior engine. Because Capital Reman provides the long block in the configuration explained, it does not force a customer to spend thousands of extra dollars for parts or components that are still good or have recently been replaced. However, the failure of one engine should absolutely be considered in terms of what parts or accessory components can or should be used on a newly remanufactured engine.

As an engine remanufacturer Capital Reman can only warranty the product it supplies. All remanufacturing work and assembly take place in our facility and the product produced is a direct result of our work. There are occasions where mistakes can be made in the assembly or remanufacturing however, our QC teams work diligently to inspect all parts and components prior to moving to the assembly room. During assembly parts are checked, oil clearances are verified, and final product inspections area also conducted. It is important to understand that although we have employed various stages of quality assurances and inspections, we are human, and things can be missed. When this occurs, Capital Reman has always rectified the situation in every instance. Understanding that it is critical that a customer or mechanic inspect any other parts or components that dress out the reman long block. Within the industry we often hear of customers making an investment in a reman engine only to try and save some money by reusing oil coolers, oil pumps, injectors, turbos, and other vital components that can have a direct impact on the long block supplied, and in many instances contributed to the original failure to begin with. To properly outfit a remanufactured long block, it is incumbent upon the customer and/or installer to ensure parts being transferred from a previously failed or flawed engine are not transferred to compromise the newly remanufactured engine. Items such as turbos, manifolds, lines, injectors, intakes/filters should be replaced, inspected, and tested to ensure proper functionality and useability. Lastly, the break-in of a newly remanufactured engine is extremely important. Every engine shipped from our facility will come with break-in instructions. Failure to follow the proper break-in procedures can cause damages or reduce the useful life of the internal parts and components. Every customer and installer should make themselves familiar with the break-in instructions to avoid any potential issues that could possibly compromise the engine’s longevity.
